New Zealand Management Academies’ (NZMA) Otahuhu Campus is preparing for a colourful and vibrant street festival day on Saturday 14 July from 10am to 2pm. Rhythm and rhymes, arts and crafts, food and barista coffee, and health exhibitions will all be on offer to the community.
There are two main goals for the day. Firstly, the Otahuhu campus wants to provide their communities the opportunity to visit NZMA, learn more about what they do and meet tutors and students. Secondly, all the money raised on the day will be used to fund a new local playground.
NZMA provides programmes across a range of industries including hospitality, cookery, business, retail, contact centre, trades, sports, early childhood education and health. Tutors and current students involved in hospitality, cookery and health programmes will be on site to showcase their skills.
Otahuhu College will open the festival with cultural performers and local up-and-coming artists.
One major component of the festival will be the Best Pop-up Restaurant comprising teams creating food from New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Mexico, Thailand, Asian fusion and India. Large dishes will cost only $5. Monin milkshakes, ice creams, snack stations and candyfloss will also be available.
Our barista competitors will be glued to the machine creating coffees by the truckload, and our Gold medal winner from the NZ Chefs Regional competition will be showcasing cocktail demonstrations in the VIP area.
While enjoying the delicious treats, local DJ Lenny will be spinning tunes alongside other Kiwi artists, no doubt creating a buzzy atmosphere on Gordon Road, Otahuhu.
There will be something for everyone with arts and crafts from around the world also on display including flax weaving, woodcarving, cultural and henna tattoos, Madd Messenger, traditional Maori poi making, flower leis, Chinese lettering and Origami.
This is a free local community event, and everyone is welcome to attend! Organisers advise using parking at the nearby Westpac Carpark or local public transport.
